Delivering SSP online via Zoom, globally.
I specialise in online delivering SSP online to those with complex trauma and chronic illness. Using my Sensitive Approach: Client at the Core I provide carefully titrated SSP listening and sensitive and intuitive support tailored for each individual so they can benefit from the best possible outcomes.
My 1:1 work with clients means so much to me. I value each client, and truly appreciate the courage and strength needed for them to reach this point in their life with their own unique set of circumstances.
As I work online from the UK I am able to work with clients anywhere in the world as long as our time zones and availability allow.
Long Covid Client
“Liz helped me gain a deep understanding of my nervous system, its various states, and the crucial role my body plays in shaping my reality. One of the most powerful aspects of our work together was how, over time, I began to rediscover my true authentic self and acknowledge past traumas that I had long avoided. The Safe and Sound Protocol created enough stability in my body to finally address things that had been buried and to release me from past burdens.
On this journey of healing, I have moved from being totally bedbound to reclaiming beautiful glimmers of life again—a return of fun, relationships, independence, and study. I look forward to continuing this transformative work with Liz and am excited for the future that lies ahead.”
I use my Sensitive Approach: Client at the Core™ to sensitively support each person through carefully paced SSP listening as appropriate to their individual situation and needs. This approach to my clinical work integrates many elements of learning and experiences from my medical background, interest in neuroscience, and personal experience of the widespread effects of trauma on brain and body.
An additional benefit to my online work is that geography and time zones are no longer a barrier, and I enjoy delivering SSP to clients in the UK and around the world!
I value each and every client and take care that I have enough time to give our work together. I carefully consider when I take on a new client to ensure I have sufficient capacity, and because of this, I typically have a waiting list. If you would like to work with someone earlier than I am available, then I can give you a list of SSP providers who have taken my Sensitive Approach workshops who may be suitable.
For clients with Parkinson’s disease and Long COVID, I offer the option to put you in touch with an experienced SSP using my Sensitive Approach. These providers have the necessary skills, experience and sensitivity for this delicate work. Additionally, I will give them regular supervision specific to your case, beginning with your intake process and then at suitable intervals during your work together.
SSP is most effective when used alongside other therapies The benefits from SSP are more likely to be maintained long term if you can set aside time to integrate the changes into your life, both during and after SSP. Reducing some of your other commitments while having SSP will help give you the opportunity to make any necessary adjustments to your lifestyle as well as having more time to care for yourself.
In general, clients experience considerable benefit to their mental and physical health after completing SSP with me using my ‘Sensitive Approach: Client at the Core™’. An increased sense of calm and well-being is often noticed by friends and family, too. The potential benefits you can experience from the SSP listening in our sessions together can be enhanced and strengthened if you use the self-care regulation activities I share with you in our sessions. I therefore encourage you to give yourself plenty of time, both straight after our online sessions and also at regular intervals between our sessions, to practice these activities. This allows your nervous system to fully integrate the deep changes experienced from the SSP listening, in preparation for our next session together.
This work together is an important investment in your health and wellbeing. To maximise benefits I ask clients to allow time and space for themselves away from work or other commitments for at least half an hour before and an hour after each of our session.
An essential aspect of working with me on your SSP journey is ensuring you have access to complementary therapeutic support, such as body therapy or talking therapy. This holistic approach allows you to better process and integrate any shifts or changes that may arise during the SSP listening program.
By combining SSP with additional therapies, we can create a foundation for more deeply embedded and sustainable benefits, helping you achieve lasting improvements in your overall well-being.
Misophonia
“Doing SSP with Liz was a really wonderful experience. Over the course of our sessions together I noticed a sense of clarity emerging, and an awareness of what nervous system state I was in, along with a significant reduction in my lifelong issues around sound sensitivity.
Liz’s unique combination of SSP coupled with numerous regulation exercises seems to have anchored the impact of SSP – but has also helped me incorporate nervous system regulation into my everyday life in a straightforward and pleasant way. Liz is compassionate, fun and all her sessions were absolutely tailor-made to me and my situation. I can’t recommend her highly enough and in fact have recommended her to a few people!”
Misophonia
“For 3+ decades I’d tried to find my way out of profound fatigue, chronic depression, and the intense anger and frustration which accompanies misophonia triggers. I’d found very little help through traditional medical treatment or psychological services. More than once these professions minimized my symptoms & struggles or dismissed my condition outright. About 8 months ago I discovered Dr. Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory and SSP. Immediately I went in search of an SSP provider. Of the all the providers I found only Dr. Liz mentioned the importance of titrating SSP, and how the lack of proper titration may be potentially harmful to the client. Reading this on her webpage indicated to me that her ethical standards exceed those of other providers, that she is unwilling to compromise her ethics, and that her practice is first and foremost client centered. And now, after having worked with her for 6 months I can confirm that all this is true! Her clients’ interest and well-being are at the forefront of everything she does. She will safeguard your well-being above all else and share tools and insights so you can become adept at safeguarding your own well-being, too. So grateful to SSP and especially Dr. Liz for bringing an end to my decades long search for well-being.”
Depression and Overwhelm
“I had a long history of depression/overwhelm triggered by uncertainty. The 3 points related to shutdown on the polyvagal flipchart perfectly describe this experience – hopelessness, self-critical thinking, and upward comparison.
Throughout my life, I have explored many healing paths, from medication in my 20’s, spirituality, therapy, meditation, psychedelics, breathing, and cold showers. I am not going to say that SSP succeeded where all these failed, but my experience of 6 months of SSP with Liz Charles through a very challenging period of my life has left me with an inner core that has been strengthened and is far more resilient than before. I am able to reconnect to my own internal resources in a way I never could before.
SSP hasn’t been a quick fix, easy or a passive exercise, but it has seemed to produce enduring resilience and the ability to re-connect with self and others. The hopelessness is replaced with hope and a confidence about the future, the self-critical thinking is replaced with more constructive and creative thinking, and the upward comparison with a self-esteem that puts me on par with the rest of humanity!”
