Complex Trauma

I use my medical background, knowledge of neuroscience, and personal experience of the effects of trauma to sensitively support each person through SSP as appropriate to their individual situation and needs.

My aim when working with clients experiencing the impact of complex trauma is to allow sufficient time and space for any shifts and changes to be processed, integrated and stabilised in their system before further input from the SSP listening. Using the principle of ‘less is more’ the whole process may take several months. In our work together I focus on creating the ‘safe’ before the ‘sound’, so your system is supported and then ready to experience the carefully titrated SSP.

Working at this ‘just right’ pace enhances the opportunity for deep healing and transformation. This process can then be sustained and continue to grow once the SSP listening, and our work together is complete.

During the online sessions with all my clients, whatever their presentation, we explore how the client’s system responds to different stresses. This essential component of the work enhances the impact of the careful titration of SSP filtered music. We also explore and practice a variety of supportive strategies and activities which can then be used between sessions and after completion of SSP.

An important component of SSP with me is that the client has access to additional therapeutic support, whether body therapy and/or talking therapy during our work together. This allows for better integration of any shifts and changes that may occur from SSP meaning there can be more deeply embedded and sustainable benefits once the SSP listening programme is complete.

As a client, you don’t have to understand how SSP works, just as you don’t have to understand how a painkiller or antibiotic works for you to benefit from it. As your SSP provider, you can trust me to have the appropriate knowledge and experience so I can deliver SSP in the most effective way for you.

I have had the privilege to witness profound shifts and beneficial changes experienced by many individuals using online delivery of SSP.

How can SSP help?

Reduces many symptoms related to trauma

Allows greater flexibility in your nervous system

Creates the opportunity for deep healing and transformation

Availability to work with you

I value each and every client and take care that I have enough time to give for our work together. I carefully consider when I take on a new client to ensure I have sufficient capacity, and because of this, I typically have a waiting list. If you would like to work with someone earlier than I am available, then I can give you a list of SSP providers who have taken my Sensitive Approach workshops who may be suitable.

Complex trauma and chronic illness

“I have been chronically ill for 5 years and SSP has given me a sense of recovery like I had never expected. Aside from the valuable content of the program, Liz has been such an amazing, accommodating and sensitive guide in this journey. She is there for me in all my ups and downs, my big nervous system shifts and balanced moments. When I experienced some intense times, I felt like she was really by my side the whole time through, and I can always feel her support, empathy and dedication to my process. I see Liz as an idol when it comes to taking care of yourself and your nervous system. By now we have a strong therapeutic rapport, which I’m very positive about. We laugh a lot! I felt a connection to her from the start, and it is that connection she so easily builds with her clients that makes the biggest difference in the work together. Liz inspires me to keep up the work and practice polyvagally informed self-care. I can’t thank her enough :)”

Complex trauma

“Even though we worked remotely all the time, Liz managed to create a safe place between us, and from the first session I found it very easy to connect with her. Doing SSP via Zoom meant that we would move substantially slower than usual; however, this ultimately proved very beneficial as this allowed me to dive deeper into the workings of my nervous system.”

Complex trauma

“I had SSP remotely. I did not quite know what to expect from our first session but Dr Liz was clear and supportive and guided me effortlessly through the process. She had a fantastic knack of making me feel listened to and supported. She was able to balance being very present but also letting me ‘just be’ when listening to the music so I was able to separate myself from any demands. Dr Liz could not have been more understanding and supportive in helping me build SSP into my routine at a time that was helpful to me.”

Complex trauma

“The power of your presence and witnessing has been incredibly validating and reassuring. It has allowed me to really trust my own slowing down more and more and follow my body. Thank you so much for your time, care, skill and for being yourself as you facilitate me.”

Complex trauma

“Travelling the SSP journey with Liz has been both enlightening and life changing for me. I have a significant trauma history and can say that at all times, I have felt safe and nurtured as we move through the different stages. The process has opened my ability to become more attuned with my body, and I have developed a greater sense of calm and clarity in my life. I find that I have improved my emotional self-regulation, and this has had a positive impact on family relationships. Also, some specific physical changes I have experienced have included: a significant reduction in jaw clenching, neck tension (which was causing headaches) and most surprisingly for me, it cleared up my blocked sinuses (which had been a problem for decades).I have needed to take my time through the SSP process, allowing my nervous system to adjust and for the ‘new me’ to make the most of the changes and opportunities that SSP delivers. It’s been a very positive experience.”

Complex trauma

“I’ve got a huge commitment to this work. Right at the beginning I knew it could be different and I wanted it it’s been a gradual process of things opening up. I think ‘what else can I invite into my life?’

Things didn’t connect before but now I’m in touch with my nervous system. Now I just can be myself and life is enjoyable. It’s not so hard to do anything now- everything was so difficult before. For so long I didn’t have any energy but now I’ve got my energy source and its good energy. I’m more in touch with my gut feeling and I’m not frightened of it anymore. My family dynamics are different – I’m brighter and more open- I’ve got firmer boundaries, and I know what’s mine and what’s theirs. I continue to do all my exercises and voos – they have become a way of life. its been life-changing!”
